VGP CZ plants trees... again!

October 22 2023

Since 2020, the VGP Foundation has supported a Czech project run by Nadace Ivana Dejmala pro ochranu přírody, focusing on Increasing the stability of forest covers in Liberec region

On October 12, 2023 the Czech VGP team gathered again in the forest of the Liberec region, close to Rychnov u Jablonce nad Nisou, where we met with Ondřej Petrovský and Jakub Trsek (Nadace Ivana Dejmala pro ochranu přírody) and a specialist in forest management Jan Duda. This year we planted 270 beech seedlings in a location that is currently being reforested in a sustainable way that will ensure forests more resistant to negative external factors.

“A healthy forest is above all diverse. Such a forest regenerates naturally and respects the natural conditions of the particular habitat. It’s not only about diversity of species, either, but also about diversity in genetics, age, stem thickness, and height. Only such forest can provide the highest possible level of resistance to pests, wind damage, as well as changing and uncertain future climatic conditions,” explains Jan Duda in an article focusing on forest diversity in Czech forests. Within the whole project, there will be around 50.000 trees planted. In the last 9 years, there were more than 320 000 trees planted in total.

Great thanks belong to our VGP volunteers for their enthusiasm to help with their own hands and to our partners for organising the event and teaching us about the importance of diversity in today's nature. We are already looking forward to the next year!
